There is a difference between frugal, and cheap. In my opinion, potluck weddings are cheap. Guests are required to bring a wedding gift AND a dish? Its a bit much. If you cant afford to feed your guests, have a smaller wedding, or elope... More

our families usually have a pot luck wedding, and it is a wonderful tradition. What you can do too, is have each family bring whatever dish they are know for, and have them make up a recipe card for it and put them into a box when they come into the reception. For example, my parents neighbor works for a printing company, he gifted us our... More

One sugestion to keep in mind if you are planning on a pot luck, is that there might not be enough food. Someone might forget to brind something, or a family with 5 kids might only bring enough food to feed 2 people and so on. I would suggest having plenty of extra food available to cover that.
