What is the big deal about immigration?

So I've heard a lot about immigration and I particularly don't see anything wrong with other people from other countries coming to the USA. Isn't that what immigration is? What makes it "illegal"? What are the democrat and republican views on illegal immigration?

Coming over legally from Mexico (which is what we are talking about here, am I correct?), from which claiming political asylum/refugee status is not likely to apply, is for the already well-off and educated (which you also have to be very well-off, or have some relativos already en el Norte to be possible). Our visa costs are very high. You hear stories about the gas station owner from India having been a doctor back in India. Well, the people coming from Mexico illegally I guarantee you, aren't doctors back in Mexico. To be able to pay the cost of applying for the visa, not too mention know how to get the paperwork needed (most little towns I've been to don't have internet access, though Cibers are starting to take route even in some very rural areas), being able to pay the bus fare to get the to nearest American Embassy or Consulate (knowing where they are...) is not possible without having earned capital (money) in the U.S. or having family already in the U.S. illegally (at least initally) to wire it down.

In response to this question, I am going to try not to take "sides" but would like you to think about what you would do in this situation based on family morals alone and a father, mother, daughter, son's innate responsibility to care for their own. Most of our ancestors (unless you are 100?ndigenous to the U.S. aka 100?ative American heritage) did the same for us when they came over in steerage class and, if they survived the trip (much like that of crossing the border on foot) and the inspection at Ellis Island, came in through New York as recent as a 100 years ago....The Irish back then were treated much the same as the Mexicans who come to our country are today. And it was probably even worse for them here then than it is for the Mexicans here today, but it was still better than starving in Ireland. Worth every risk, goodbye forever, and moment of suffering.

Yes, we can continue to talk about what "We" are entitled to. And why "We" are so entitled. And why "We" deserve so much better.....but realize that the vast majority of Americans already get better than everyone else in the world and don't even know it.

Legal or illegal, if you were not so "lucky" as to be born north of the border or into a highly educated/wealthy foreign family, what would you do to get your dying mother medicine or get food on the table (literally) for your kids. What would an American do? Well, look and see what our ancestors did for us.

And about the loss of jobs, instead of focusing on scapegoating the poorest and least powerful players in this equation and look at the US transnational companies "our" government services and allows to bring goods into this country even though they are produced under conditions and for pay that do not abide by US law. They are the ones that should be facing the blame more than anyone, but we see them as big and powerful, too big and powerful to tell what to do, but gee, we better stay on their good sides....Lack a backbone much.

And I beg, no one reply that the wages paid in our maquiladoras in pesos is equivalent (and can buy as much down there) to the dollar value..... My husband works in one of out lovely maquiladoras for 100-150 pesos a day (10-12 hour shifts) 5-6 days a week. Just FYI, 100 pesos is about $10 dollars. And besides rent being cheaper, everything else pretty much costs the same, or more, than it does here.

But for now my fellow American citizens, I guess I will have to bow down to your high and mighty sense of entitlement, until we all grow up and learn to be something more.

Most Americans don't care much about immigration, its illegal immigration that they have a problem with. Legal immigration is when the american government know about, and approves the person coming to the US to live. Illegal immigration is when a person sneaks into the country (or breaks their visa) to live or work here. Traditionally, democrats are much softer on i****************s than republicans.

MY view is to allow free border so they can come over legally they just need to pay taxes and get jobs.

Will the people of the USA ever realize that at some point they came from somewhere else. Why was it OK for their ancestor's to come and now there is a problem when new people apply for citizenship.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with immigration! Immigrants that are in the US (legal or illegal) contribute a lot by doing a lot of work some don't want to do, by paying taxes, and by being consumers to.

The Politicians are quite about it because they really have to analyze the whole immigration thing after seeing the negative effects of the new laws and raids. The immigrants were not accounted for, and now that they are leaving, they are seeing how much they were paying into the system.

http://www.usimmigrationsupport.org/contributions.html
Contributions of Immigrants to the United States (legal & illegal)
Most of the 32 million immigrants are Hispanic with the next largest segment being Asians. In a report published by the CEA or Council of Economic Advisers, immigrants were found to positively contribute to the U.S. economy.

For example, immigrants add more than $30 billion in income for American workers (U.S. born). In terms of innovation per capita, immigrants in the U.S. beat the U.S. born workers. A greater number of immigrants start up businesses compared to native born Americans; their start up pace is estimated to be 40?reater. Other report findings included that immigrants had a lower probability of ending up in prison and committing crimes. It was not surprising that the CEA report found that more workers yield greater output as this would be expected in the United States as with many other nations. Immigrants play a role in the country’s macroeconomic growth and their taxes help increase public budgets.

What is the big deal? Ask John Smith! I do see something wrong!

There is a problem with illegal immigration however...just ask california who has to ask the feds for 13 billion dollars because the illegals have been using our government benefits...

You should care because if you are a tax paying citizen, you are paying for i****************s to collect welfare, foodstamps and abuse other government agencies. Since Mexicans have way more kids than anyone else, they qualify for help over the average American who has only 2 or 3 kids. This is hurting your fellow Americans, and you are paying for it everyday. If they want to be here they need to do it the legal way and apply for citizenship. Otherwise, stay in your own country and leave mine alone.

Absolutely nothing wrong.People are just ridiculous. They obviously pay taxes because they work. They buy a car...get a driver's license and get and insurance....I dont what's wrong...they are helping us boost the ecomnomy. Most of the people getting benefits are citizens.get your facts right. most immigrants dont even have most benefits. a visit to the doctors can cost up tp one thousand. I dont see how they are using americas benefits. do your research.youll see that Califorinia is doing bad because the idiot we have as a governor that only keeps cutting on education.

Uhh try living in Arizona where every time you go into a gas station you get starred at by 25+ and it makes you skin crawl. Or getting into a car accident with one who has no insurance or drivers license and then getting a letter from a lawyer saying if your insurance doesn't cover everything they can sue you.

It's illegal because coming to the U.S. without doing the time (immigrating properly... like learning English and the national anthem and stuff) is against the law.

You been on here for over 1 year and you don't know the answer? Right!
They are not immigrants. They are illegals. Immigrants file papers and come over legally.
Illegals effect single tax payer.
Ever think about over Population; water shortages; food production; housing; hospitals; schools?

EDIT: America WAS an undeveloped nation 100 years ago and needed and welcomed immigrants. The same is not true today. We are certainly not undeveloped, and are taxing our natural resources, and over populated. To continue to allow anyone and everyone entry to the US, just because, is ludicris. For anyone to feel they are entitled to come here, just because, is ludicris. How would you like it if your country was over run and your tax dollars were spent on supporting all these people instead of being used for the legal citizens benefit? As for Soc Sec. if they pay in so much money to the fund and don't collect why is it almost broke?
And immigrants starting businesses. It does not differentiate between legal and illegal.

At my company we advertised for some jobs and got hundreds of workers that applied for the jobs but instead of hiring a regular American they hired someone that was brought over on a special VISA form overseas. I heard there was many qualified applicants but they wanted to pay less so they claimed there was no qualified Americans so they could get a low paid foreigner. I think in today's economy there should be a stop of all immigration. Jobs should be for Americans in today's tough economy! Agree?

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

I am currently a 1st year irregular college student taking I.T. I transferred schools and my majors never got credited. But it's okay because i am slowly getting the logics in programming in Java. This next semester i am taking a System Analysis and Design(SADSIGN) and i am getting nervous because even though i am pretty good at logics, i am not that good at coding. But since it is a case study, we will be on group, we will be four i think. Project manager, Analyst, Documentation, and the programmer. I am asking what jobs i can get after graduating I.T. because what if i graduated I.T. and still not that good at coding, i am hoping that there will be a jobs that will require less programming. Like Database manager or in Multimedia or in charge of Network. So is there jobs that doesn't require hardcore programming skills?
