Difference between work experience and internship?

In the context of a financial job? Which one is higher regarded? In the context of actuarial jobs. Would say 4 weeks of "work experience" be less or more than 4 weeks of an internship?

An intership is regarded highly because you have a beginners' experince. Work experience, or co-op is the opportunity to work in an existing job at school, but is not focused on that job in particular.

experience always wins out in the corporate world. If I had two job applicants that were equally qualified, one had years of experience and one had a year or two of an internship, I'd always hire the one with experience.

I would say that the one that relates most to the job you're applying for is more significant. An internship is work experience as long as it's the same field you're applying for. Whether you were paid or not is irrelevant.

Normally, internship is the additional Professional training that is taken after completing a degree. This is required in the 'old' professions like medicine, law and architecture. Work experience is undertaken by school children.
