Are construction workers allowed to work at 3 in the morning?

I live right behind a small strip mall, and they are doing construction on it. For the past few nights, the workers have come up on the roof to begin work at 3 in the morning. I wouldn't mind, but they are sawing, and pounding away up there. It's very close to my bedroom window, so it makes it difficult to sleep. Are they allowed to do this so early in the morning? Should I call their boss, or the police the next time they do it? Or am I out of luck?

Usually not. There is probably a bylaw in your town that says they can't. I would call the town/city office and enquire about any regulations against it. You may as well call the police and file a noise complaint.

Where I live even emergency vehicles, ambulances, etc. are required to turn off their sirens and use lights only in residential neighborhoods during very early am hours. Sounds like someone is just trying to do some catch up work or get ahead of... More
