Can you sign up for unemployment if you were working through a staffing agency?

I had been working through a staffing agency (Manpower) at a major corporation for about 2 years and 4 months. They suddenly laid me off last week due to lack of work. Would I be able to collect unemployment in this situation? My paychecks came from Manpower. I had contacted them about seeking out a replacement but I really have no faith in how soon they will do this as in the past they have not been very effective or helpful. What are my chances?

yes you can collect from a temp agency. Go to the local unemployment agency and apply. Keep trying to contact the agency to see if they have a replacement. If they offer you a job you cannot deny it though or they can tell the unemployment office that you refused work and your benefits will be denied. So go to the... More
