Does the American school system need to have the bar raised?

Does the American school system need to have the bar raised? To me, it seems like the Canadian and British school systems are so much better than ours. What are some simple steps that can be taken?

The resounding answer to that in my opinion is, YES. It also needs to be reformed. Much of the world has already realized that. I had an Italian friend in college who said American Schools are a breeze. There they have to pass days of proficiency tests to just go into school or the next grade. If they fail they are out... We are moving through turbulent times whereby the English standard has also been greatly lowered to accommodate the demands of certain groups. This is a can of worms best left closed for the time being.

I couldn't agree more with gary, they bar for america need to get raised. I am currently going to college and struggling so much because my teacher never went over difficult material just the same thing it seems like for every class

A lot of these schools are just teaching the meaps and not teaching the basics any more. Also they are still pushing these kids through without taking the time to teach the kids to read, write, or do math. They want to drug up the kids, and not deal with each child who needs help.
