How do you cope when working under an incompetant CEO?

The CEO of the company does not seem to know what is going on. The company is in chaos. All the managers are qualified with good degrees etc but the CEO does not seem to know how to run things and when confronted with problems like bad customer service - he says his job is 'not about dealing with operational issues' and then basically nothing gets done about it. I cant afford to quit and I really like the job in itself but it is so frustrating trying to work in this environment. What can I do?

it seems a common problem. the CEO is all about the numbers and shareholders and doesnt actually realise what they are in charge of. I would say that some of the executive directors need to take the blame though as they are the first point of call for operational issues.

If your paycheck is big enuf, you can smile your way thru incompetency. If your paycheck is small, an incompetent can cause you to lose your mind. You have something inside you that allows you to get thru life's tough times. use that again..
