Where can I find the regulations that a GAL must follow in evaluating a custody suit?

Where can I find the regulations that a GAL must follow in evaluating a custody suit? How many times are they supposed to visit the child? Does he go to the school and talk to the teachers? I am looking for specific national or state guidelines. I don't believe my Custody Evaluator has done his job. Who do I go to to complain?
