How sharp are the knife parts of swiss army knives?

Compared to say a Gerber or Leatherman multitool. Obviously, i know that it depends on wether you sharpen it or not, but which ones hold a sharp edge better, etc. Thanks very much.

The sharpness of any knife is not based on it's name brand, rather by what sort of steel it uses, how it has been tempered, and to what degree it was sharpened by the manufacturer. All of the brands mentioned are Top-Notch blades. Within the Genre of "Swiss Army" knives however, I would say the Brand is going to GREATLY dictate the "sharpness" of the blade. I would say the blades from Wenger and Victorinox would be the best available in a Swiss Army knife. Avoid the "China" made blades as they... More

As Batman stated, Wenger and Victorinox are the only "official" Swiss Army Knives. The steel in these two brands will take a very fine edge. There have been reported cases of emergency surgery being preformed with Swiss Army Knife blades as scalpels.
