Why did so many people hate Donald Rumsfeld?

He was just doing his job. And Powell and Ashcroft were above him, too and nobody hates them

Because he is a warmonger who has caused a lot of destruction due to his ego. The man tried to re-fight Vietnam in Iraq - and lost twice. He was the guiltiest, so the animosity is deserved in my opinion.
