What is an Typical Mechanical Engineering job like?

I'll be graduating soon and I've got an offer already at this company that makes insulation. I'll be testing the strength of the materials. I've heard alot of stories from people saying they never use any thing they learned in school for their job. Should I expect most Mechanical Engineering jobs to be like that? where you dont use anything you learn in school?
