What are the advantages and disadvantage of earning a degree in Biochemical Engineering before medical school?

I want to attend medical school, and I was hoping to earn my bachelor's in Biochemical Engineering. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this degree?

Advantage: with an engineering degree, you can earn lots of money even before you graduate (most engineering intern is pay low ave of 12 / hr, median range 16-17 / hr, high 21+ an hour, so cal average, this is about 45k per year without an degree.) the average bio engineer starting salary are around. low 60 to mid 70 k... The biggest advantage will be the preparation. Engineering school forces you to develop very good study/HW habits, and this will carry on to the rigors of med school. A biochemical engineering program should provide you with all or most of the premed you need, but you may end up needing an extra course or two along... More
