the south was predominately agricultural while the north was developing a large industrial economy. This led to major issues over tariffs and onto what should tariffs be placed. the north wanted high tariffs on manufactured goods with the south wanted them on agriculture products.

The south used slaves to pick their cotton etc, so not having to pay wages they made huge profits.

the north was more industrialized, so they had factory jobs and manufactured goods. whereas the south was a predominantly agricultural economy, like cotton (and the slaves did a lot of the hard labor). this was a big part of the conflict because when the south seceeded they had an idea called King Cotton- that the...
