Is the automotive industry something i can still make a career out of?

i'm thinking of becoming a automotive technician but not so sure anymore. i know american automakers are hurting but will there still be good business with foreign dealerships and other jobs requiring auto technicians?

Not really. I worked in the automotive business as an auditor; got laid-off twice this year. It would be good for exposure, but not as a life long career. First off, Realize that auto technicians are rarely paid in salary. Often enough, techs work over 60 hours each week and only get paid for the amount of hours that the job should take.
