I'll assume you are dependent of your parents since you're filling out the college board info.....$2000 of income from a job means you are below the IRS filing requirements (as long as the 2000 is from regular job that withheld taxes) but you should file a return so you can get back any federal withholding taken from... I think if you earned taxable wages from an employer -- you have to file a tax return.

If you have earnings above a certain level or if you have taxes withheld from your pay you need to file a income tax return. The requirements are different for each state and the Federal Government.

It depends on age, filing status, and income. Single under 65: $8,950. Single, if may be claimed as a dependent on another return, and under 65: greater of $900 in passive income (interest, dividends) or earned income earned income of $5,150 plus $300 in other income.

Did you have income in 2008? That is what determines if you need to file a return.

There is no age minimum. If you make over a certain income ($5450 in 2008 without your personal exemption) you are required to file. If you made less, you are not required, but it is recommended for things like PROFILE college board, for example.
