Im joining the navy whats allowed on ships?

May I bring my guitar and laptop on the ships with me or am I only allowed to bring on what the Navy issues me. Also I will be taking my asvab on Monday its now Friday what should i choose as a career any suggestions. I would like a career that after my four years i can carry it into the real world. I'm not sure about your first question. As far as your career goes, you need to check on that yourself. Go to and do some research on what you like and what it involves. Each job listing will tell you what civilian jobs it may give you experience for.

I doubt you can bring the guitar simply because you have nowhere to store it. Unless you get in good with the BM in charge of the Bosn's Locker. The laptop will store just fine though. Just keep it locked up when not using it... More

It depends on your duty station and your grade. Check with them when you get there.

A guitar is a little over the top I doubt you will be allowed to play it. But if you get on base housing or barracks yeah. Get a career you see yourself doing well in.

Yes, most ships will allow you to bring your guitar aboard ship. I had one when I was stationed on a cruiser out of Norfolk. There were several instances while deployed overseas, we had cookouts on the flight deck, jammed with our guitars, etc. Stowage can be a problem. "Gear adrift" is really frowned upon. But... More
