Should chief executives get a larger percentage pay rise than the rest of the workforce?

http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/news/britain/nhs_fat_cat_salaries_up_9_5_per_cent There are cases where chief executives impose small pay rises on workers, and give themselves huge pay rises. Is this fair considering market forces and making sure that the right person does the job which are the arguments they use?

No they shouldn't but unfortunately in real life they do. Large companies spend thousands making sure their directors salaries are "benchmarked" to the rest of the market and it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle.

NO, and arguably they should lead by example (as our "betters" are supposed to) and not get any extra; after all they can much more afford the loss than someone on a minimum wage or dole.

it very much depends,if because of the ceo's actions a company is thriving and the staff are being payed a fair rate of pay then yes.however if the company is doing badly not only should they not get any pay rise but should be held accountable not just to share holders but also to all his employees who's jobs his/her...
