When was the last time a wealthy employer offered you a job or enough money to keep pace with consumer index?

My experience is the employer has double/triple hiring/screening process in search of the cheapest willing worker legal or not. And if NOT legal they will lobby for more legalization & increase of immigration. Outcasting the several generation American for any cheap labor supply also hiring young & the dumb with no wisdom maybe see-through sheepskin. Nobody offering anything you got to beg/hoopjump/get the major run-around to find any opportunities.

Never... employers are as cheap as they can be. They dont even know what "cost of living" means. Edit: Terry... that USED to be true. I dare you try that strategy in a job interview nowadays... you'll get laughed out of the room.

That may be true in blue-collar work; in professional/white collar work, you negotiate the rate you want. If they don't want to pay it, there's always someone else willing to pay the going rate for someone who is good at their job.

In 1980 the average CEO pay was 40 x that of the frontline worker. 2008 it is 455 x. If minimum wage kept pace it would pay $4000 hr. There gain is the raise we don't receive and the CPI is around 11% not 3% 4% that the government says
