Drugs is one example. There has been some really passionate bands but one or two members are drug-addicted, get themselves booted, replaced with younger talent and became virtual unknowns until they show up on a VH1 "Where Are They Now?" program.

I don't think it's because of drugs or even the death of one of the bandmates. Look at NIrvana, Sublime, Elliott Smith. Hell look at Bob Marley. If they really have heart they'll last.
