Do you feel the government should provide its citizens with everything they need to survive?

This is a quote from another user and frankly it's pretty scary in my opinion. " The government doesn't pay taxes, it collects taxes to serve the common interests of the people of the United States. What are the common interests? Food, shelter, heat, electricity, water, education, police and firefighting to keep the community safe. A thriving economy where all people can afford a living and be safe is a common interest of the people. What does Obama always talk about? The people." ...Is this the thinking that got Obama elected? Maybe transportation, jobs, and health care should be rights too... It seems a few answerers have not read the details of the question. ( I know it's complicated) It was NOT I who said the quote. I came across it and couldn't believe my eyes. What is the deal with people thinking the government is there to help them???

Depends. If a person has worked and fallen on hard times, yes. If they are like 99% of the ghetto innercity leeches, no. In fact they need to be rounding them up and putting the leeches to sleep.

It's the old Communist dream. Sounds wonderful...does NOT work in real life.. Why? Because "The People" are not carbon copies of each other.

YES , I feel the government should provide its citizens with everything they need to survive , WHEN HIS/HER SURVIVAL IS AT STAKE. AND only this would be a 100% welfare State.
