Can you be a waiter without having been a host first?

There is a new Yard House opening up and I was thinking about applying for a waiter job. However, I have never been in the food industry before... I do have 5 years of experience in customer service. So, do you think that I would qualify for this job or are they generally only looking to hire waiters that have experience?

We actually love newbies. They don't bring along any bad habits. 5 years customer service is awesome.

Generally speaking most restaurants would want experience wait help. After all besides the food, the wait help represents and I would go as far as to say they are the restaurant. I've been to restaurants who had terrible if not mediocre food but if the wait help was excellent I would over look many of the problems.
