What is it like living in Los Angeles? Specifically: weather, houses, freeways, work, people?

I'm thinking of visiting and then possibly moving after completing Urban Planning at university. According to PayScale the salary is good there.

The payscale is higher because the houses are priced at a gazillion dollars each. Save your money go somewhere else.

The recession has devastated California. Jobs are almost nonexistent. The city has initiated a hiring freeze. You would be moving to one of the most expensive and highly taxed states.
