What are your thoughts on a pediatrician over a family doctor?

My doctor told me to start looking for a pediatrician but I haven't been able to find one. I am 22 weeks pregnant. All the pediatricians are booked up. I can get on a waiting list but it's still not a good chance that I will get one. Can I just use my family doctor? I know they can give the baby all of his shots. I live in a small town so I will have to drive an hour and a half to get to a pediatrician.

We use a family doctor and she does a fine job with our son. They still have to be up to date on current standards, research, and education when it comes to babies and children too. I'd say if you're able to take your baby into your family doctor and it's closer then go for it.

And, in that case, it can take weeks and weeks to get an appointment. Just because you see that paed once doesn't mean you will get to see... More
