Obama's plan to digitize all medical records?
I was watching him the other night on the news and heard him talking about digitizing all medical records? SO... what does that mean for all medical transcriptionists (myself and thousands of others) and medical coders? Doesn't that mean that we are going to be out of a job pretty soon? Or is that incorrect? I am really confused on the manner... So, would that create more jobs or would that put people like myself out of work? Thanks so much.

My opinion after many, many years as a medical transcriptionist, supervisor and high level management in the field, is that Obama's plan to digitilize all medical records will be a terrible failure. This is not a new thing--there has been a federal mandate for some time to move to EMR (electronic medical records); the process has been mixed.
