Was Judd Gregg's solicitation for Commerce Secretary a set-up to embarrass President Obama?

He asked for the job and was undoubtedly fully informed of the President's policies. What could have been of such importance, and new information to him, that would cause him to withdraw? Are there skeletons in his own closet? Or, was it just to add to the President's problems with the cabinet selections? Gregg most certainly did ask for the job. Some think the heavy hand of the GOP came down on his shoulder and told him to get out of it. That wouldn't surprise me, either.

Unless Gregg relates the real reason he declined to fulfill the service he requested (yes, Gregg indeed asked for the postion) in the administration, we may never know. It appears the GOP machine finally got to him and convinced him they needed his vote in the Senate.
