R&P musicians: what is your or your band's setup for recording?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to drum up some interest in a R&P song covering challenge, you can find more info here:;_ylt=Au2zp8setIOrcRGHuyNgglfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090219115554AAhdL2j and i thought i would find out what all you hobbyists out there are using to record and mix your songs. personally, i mix using an old version of cakewalk pro audio, and i use a combination of different microphones and a line in from a 8 channel amp PA depending on the kind of sounds and effects i am trying to achieve, i also use an outboard usb soundcard that adds better line ins than the one that was built in to my computer's motherboard. It gives me more input options and better isolation. So, R&P musicians, what is your set up for recording? BQ: has anyone tried Audacity? I have been considering trying it lately since my cakewalk version is so old. Bob- thanks for the scoop on audacity. sounds pretty much like my complaint with cakewalk. although it does equalize well and does well with fades in and out, that is just about all i trust it with for effects. Sounds to me like i should stick with the devil i know rather than the devil i dont. Tripping- yeah, i am not a demo recorder either, i just enjoy the process of composing a full arrangement. Also i like how doing that kind of thing pushes me to be a better musician and to learn other instruments. The other night i was working on something and decided it needed a trumpet part. It took me like an hour to learn 3 notes and play them well!
