Who pays the scientists to do medical research ?

Who pays the scientists to do medical research like sleeping studies ,how stress effects the body ,good food and bad food ,is electromagnetic field good or bad , people who are bald ,gray hair ,understanding the immune system ,understanding viruses and bacteria ,new microscope ,new better MRI ,new better CT scan or x-ray so on so on. Does the government pay or non profit groups? And where does the medical research take place? And does the government feel the need to give money or not or is this low priority for the government ? Is there a lack of money comming in?

If the scientist is working for a company, then it comes from that company. If a scientist is working for a University, then it comes in forms of grants from private businesses, non-profit organizations, and government departments such as the National Science Foundation... More

Researchers get money wherever they can. Right now, pharmaceutical companies fund about two thirds of it, a considerably larger share than in the past. Non-governmental organizations like American Heart fund a few, and a modest number are funded by universities themselves and by the government.
