Why give tips for some service but not others?

I work very hard in an area of service that (usually) gets no tips. My employer pays me to do the job under a contract of "at-will" employment. I love my job! I work my butt off for people to make their travel perfect. HOURS of work go into each itinerary. No tips. But some workers in other industries are given tips for far less work. Can you say why? BTW, I am not a travel agent.

What do you do? People usually don't tip travel agents, as whether they are nice or not, you will still get on holidays. But a mean waitor can spoil a meal.

I'm assuming you make the minimum wage for your state or even more than that? Servers in restaurants do not, which is why tipping is standard procedure. Many states, perhaps most are "at will"- Florida, where I live certainly is, and I am an accountant, so this has nothing to do with tips/salary at all.

Certain jobs are allowed to exist below minimum wage. Waiters, waitresses, caddies, all are hired at less than minimum wage legally. I've never thought of tipping my travel agent. I think in this country where I live currently it would be illegal, like a kick back.
