What do the different sub-divisions in nuclear engineering do?

I'm not sure what part of nuclear engineering I'm interested in yet, so I need advice. By sub-divisions I mean like fusion, materials science, radiation protection, ect.

There are a couple of ways of looking at this. The broadest view of nuclear engineering does include the fusion vs. fission divide, and each of those can be broken out into controlled nuclear energy (reactors) and not-so-controlled nuclear energy (nuclear weapons). When I was studying for my degree in Nuclear, much of this was included in the basics. You need the basics in all these, and some nuclear physics, to then understand reactor theory, design and power generation... More
