Do employers check up on your employment history?

When applying for a retail job can you lie on your cv and say that you had worked somewhere when you hadn't, or do employers actually call and check? I've never lied on my cv and I was thinking if other people are and they're getting the jobs then I might as well!

They can do, a lot of people do lie on the CVs these days, otherwise they wouldn't acheive their aimed potentials. Employers just care about all the lar-dee-dar rubbish, like who has a Diploma etc. You have to judge a person by themselves, not how many cats or dogs they have.

Yes employers actually check that stuff! Do you think that they ask you for your health? If you lie on an application, you can not only be fired, but sued as well if you claimed qualifications that enabled you to get the job that you actually never had.

The law limits what employers can ask or say unless the is a legal need for doing so such as a background check. But an employer can ask if you have worked at a business and all that business can say is yes or no.
