How do I clean a painted china victorian toilet, possibly without using chemicals?

I am renovating this nice old toilet, and its painted toilet bowl is kind of disgustingly encrusted with decades of limescale and unidentified brown stuff. I am going to try vinegar and I know that cola also does the job, but have you got any other suggestion? Thanks!

tang works wonders on such things. Also you may want to try baking soda with the vinegar.
