How do I clean a painted china victorian toilet, possibly without using chemicals?
I am renovating this nice old toilet, and its painted toilet bowl is kind of disgustingly encrusted with decades of limescale and unidentified brown stuff. They formed only around the upper edge and the water line. Now, I don't want to be too aggressive on the chinaware because I don't want to ruin the decoration, and I don't like the idea of using caustic chemicals in general. I am going to try vinegar and I know that cola also does the job, but have you got any other suggestion? Thanks!

Frankly I use Joy dishwashing liquid in water for everything. It should not hurt the paint, plus if soaked and using a soft pot scratcher (like Scott's) that would take off the top crud, then just soak the rest (like wet it once with joy and water, then few minutes later do it again and try to remove it with a sponge... tang works wonders on such things. Also you may want to try baking soda with the vinegar.
