what are the responsibilities of a prep cook?

If you are a prep cook in a restaurant what do you do, besides the obvious "prep food." Can someone please give me a little more detail into their job?

With such a responsible position, I reckon they'd even let you do some washing up as well.

Prep cook usually cuts and prepare basics, i.e. cut veggies for salads or recipes, make sure to have the right utensils etc... but most times he gets to clean dishes, benches and floors.

Depends a lot on the restaurant. In a bigger place you wll be doing a lot of weighing and portioning. You may also have to restock the line as needed during the rushes and it is important the new stuff goes behind the old stuff. Most big places will have you put "date dots" on everything you make...
