How do I transfer 8mm videos to my computer?

I have alot of home videos and would like to learn to edit and burn them to dvds. My friend suggested microsoft movie maker, but I no longer have the 8mm camcorder. As far as I know, there was only one 8mm camcorder that has a usb cable, the sony trv-480. It is about $400 used. Is this the only device that can do the job?

Lap top drives usually aren't very... More
