Is portland, oregon good place for raising kids?

My friend recently got a job offer from a company in portland oregon she is still collecting information about life style there specially in terms of schools and housing? she wants to live in a good area with good community and schools.

I grew up in SE portland and I loved it! It was a very very nice neighborhood, we never had any problems.
