How can I make myself more competitive in the job market?

I graduated Magna c*m Laude with a degree in English Education 6 months ago...and still jobless! When I apply for teaching positions, they say that I'm underqualified and inexperienced. When I apply for secretarial positions, they say I'm overqualified. I'm learning Spanish, volunteering several days a week, and writing a book. What more can I do! I'll do anything that pays at least $10 an hour. What can I do to make myself stand out from the crowd?
