How can you afford to live on your own in San Fernando Valley?

How do college aged kids from the San Fernando Valley afford to live on their own? If they're parents don't help wouldn't they be forced to move away until they have a career? Other than being a waiter, what job (not career) would be able to pay rent in the area?

There are very cheap areas that provide low cost rent, but you pay what you get and that's not saying much. You might check out areas like North Hollywood, or Van Nuys, and Reseda. You would need a steady paying job to keep you afloat, not something that changes week to week.
