Should I ask my manager who is Executive Vice President to put in a good word for regarding an internal job?
Hey guys and gals, I've been working for a company for 2.5 years as an Admin Assistant for the Executive Vice President of my company. There is a position available for another Admin Asst position which pays maybe 3-5k more than my position now. Should I ask him to put in a good word for me or tell him that I have applied for the position because I am seeking more responsible and there is a pay increase? Thanks!

Tell him you have applied for the position. Then ask if the VP would consider writing you a letter of recommendation. That letter with carry more weight than his just mentioning it to the HR person. Plus it shows you value your boss's opinion.
