How did Japan rebuild its economy after World War 2?

Please talk about why the US helped them, and why they are now a developed country.

Japan had already developed to a high level in heavy manufacturing, steel making, ship building, heavy chemicals and vehicle manufacturing prior to WW2 based on a policy of a partnership between business and government with a high degree of government direction and assistance with investment. dunno bout immed post war investment from US..but in the early 60's u see a different pattern of economic behaviour/strategy in Japan comp with US..basically Japan spent about 1/3 of its GDP on capital investment..whereas the US only spent 1/5..the rest of the fraction for both countries being spent on consumption... More
