A robot is a virtual or mechanical artificial agent. In practice, it is usually an electro-mechanical system which, by its appearance or movements, conveys a sense that it has intent or agency of its own. The word robot can refer to both physical robots and virtual software agents, but the latter are usually referred to as bots. There is no consensus on which machines qualify as robots, but there is general agreement among experts and the public that robots tend to do some or all of the following: move around, operate a mechanical limb, sense and manipulate their environment, and exhibit intelligent behavior, especially behavior which mimics humans or other animals. Stories of artificial helpers and companions and attempts to create them have a long history but fully autonomous machines only appeared in the 20th century. The first digitally operated and programmable robot, the Unimate, was installed in 1961 to lift hot pieces of metal from a die casting machine and stack them. Today, commercial and industrial robots are in widespread use performing jobs more cheaply or with greater accuracy and reliability than humans. They are also employed for jobs which are too dirty, dangerous or dull to be suitable for humans. Robots are widely used in manufacturing, assembly and packing, transport, earth and space exploration, surgery, weaponry, laboratory research, and mass production of consumer and industrial goods. People have a generally positive perception of the robots they actually encounter. Domestic robots for cleaning and maintenance are increasingly common in and around homes. There is anxiety, however, over the economic effect of automation and the threat of robotic weaponry, anxiety which is not helped by the depiction of many villainous, intelligent, acrobatic robots in popular entertainment. What would be their incentive? I don't think that this scenario makes much sense. They are supposedly going to see the world as more important than human life and use their super-rationality to determine that humans must be done away with. I don't see how the ecosystem as a whole could be destroyed by the daily interactions of humans, causing robots to make a malicious judgment against them. No, I don't believe in climate change, but even if I did the robots would be much more inclined to regenerate it's environment than to destroy it's creators. I don't think it's nearly as simple as "people hurt other life forms and systems, and the robot finds it's its job to fix that by killing humans". Answered By: Blappers - 6/2/2009

Not all robots are the same. Some build things, some carry things. And they are different shapes. Most will not even have wheels or feet; permanently mounted to the floor. They do not talk to each other. So not likely. Very slim chance. Answered By: TheTerminatorFan - 6/2/2009

Yeah if you build a robot with a gun and you fit it with sensors and programming to attack humans, the only thing you can do to program the thing to only shoot the enemy is to give it an ethical program. But unfortunately humanity itself cannot be judged by ethics alone, for we are all guilty of changing them in our favor. So in essence the robots just become a race of robotic humans. 	How do I get a job with Dodgy work history and no experience? Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? 	Why honesty, hard work and dedication have no place at work? Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why?
