	Will I get flak for joining the army not to fight? I don't care about being tough or getting any respect from civilians or soldiers. I want to serve the country in an Army desk job and not be killed. Asked By: tnt633 - 6/14/2009

Screw the flak. Let me put it this way. Sure there are guys who want to join the infantry to be tough and all of that. So how is that going to help in the civilian world later? The guys who take say a more admin or logistics desk job? Shoot.... pretty much it will apply to a civilain job, a government job or working with say a government contracter later. You understand business and organization. When I was younger I joined the combat arms because I just wanted to be in the thick of things. But later I (as a rare exception) now do a mix of both and work with many desk jockeys as I am in the DC area. Both my father and step father just went logistics when they signed. Both have had stellar careers and are set for life. My father retired from the military, then from the government and now just does some consulting. Not all that long ago when I was tooling around in the mid east for 4 years? Who do you think was making all of this possible? Supply guys, analysts, people processing paperwork, intel guys and you flippin name it. The NCOs who run a desk are the glue of the military that makes it all possible. Hey.. to each his own. Whatever your reason for joining, there is always jobs that need to be filled. You know? People are always going to think one job is better than the others, but in reality we all need each other in this big dysfunctional Department of Defense family. NEWS FLASH!!! A lot of those desk jobs have been outsourced to civilians, and there aren't nearly as many as you think. Freeing up soldiers by outsoursing things like KP, desk jobs and the like, frees up soldiers to do what they are trained to do...FIGHT!!! Answered By: TedEx - 6/14/2009

Army desk clerks will and do deploy so don't think you won't deploy. You are a Soldier first and foremost. You will be trained as if you will deploy so be prepared. If you don't want to fight, don't join. That is the safest way you know you will not deploy. Answered By: ckamk1995 - 6/14/2009

It would be in your best intrest to keep that to yourself once you are in the Army. When you say that you dont intend to fight what the other soldiers will hear is that you wont have their backs in a combat situation. Generaly people in the Army do not like other people that will not back them up in a fight. So its your choice, you can be in the Army, do your job that most likely will never involve direct combat and receive all the benifts that come with being in the Army or you can tell people that your in the Army but dont want to fight and have to go to work each day and be around a bunch of soldiers who despise you. 	How do I get a job with Dodgy work history and no experience? Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? 	Why honesty, hard work and dedication have no place at work? Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why?
