Is a .270 good for elk if it is what distance is to far?

Yeah closer in biggest hunting bullet and 200yds or less. Its not the best gun for the job...a 30-06 would be better and a .338 or 300mag would do better... More

I wouldn't use a .270 for elk, but alot of people do. I would want to use a .300 win or wby mag, at least a 30-06 so I can get a 180 gr in that elk. For elk and a .270 200 yards is too far, TO ME.

* Yes according to the Winchester Product Ballistic Service Manual it is, but Only if you use the 130 grain XP3, or the 150 grain XP3 Bullets.* Maximum effective range is 350 yards.*

it is good for elk with a 150 grain cartridge, 250 yards and you wont have to track it

A 270 is marginal at best for elk. I live in Mt and have nearly 20 elk under my belt. Lots of people use the 270, and some swear by it. But in our hunting group, we have shot two elk that had bullets that mic'ed out at .277" in them. Either one would have been dead if they had been hit with something larger... More

A .270 too small for Elk? What the heck is wrong with people. It will flatten an Elk. I do not care if you have personally killed 100's of Elk. This is a very effective round.
