What are the economic reasons opposing (or supporting) universal healthcare reform in the United States?

Since we are in a recession without a difinite end in site, what are the economic implications (or benefits) and costs that would result?

Fascinating question. Let me first start with the cons: the U.S. is already in a poor fiscal state, and universal healthcare would only exacerbate the situation. pro: healthier population will be more productive at work, earning their living and interest on savings of others. con: it is expensive and wasteful as people tend to over-use free goods.
