If national health insurance passes?

How long after do you think it'll be, before everybody on it is required to get check ups, and take any meds or vaccines that lobbyists convince the government we need?
Just put party lines aside for a minute and visualize how much power lobbyists have on the government.
Wow, I can't believe many of you can't picture how easily that could happen.
Sandra M, I'm not saying all shots are bad but I've never had a flu shot, and don't ever want to take more mercury into my system than necessary. I don't ever want to be forced to take a medication I don't like either.

It'll work exactly like that. What leftists fail to understand that the current system we have is the result of lots of government involvement. Government involvement gives monopoly over health care to big pharma.

They have no competition besides each other. Neither do medical doctors, who get indoctrinated by schools sponsored by pharma and the medical industrial complex, teaching them to do nothing but prescribing drugs.

EVERYONE IS ON f*****g DRUGS FOR EVERY CONDITION. Wether the conditions is caused by bad lifestyle, or side effects............ETC........ It's ridiculous.

Also, EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL SHOOTER WAS ON SSRI's!!!!!!

And then guns are blamed for the mass murders in school???? Why does barely anyone in the corporate establishment blame SSRI's???

www.ssristories.com

EDIT: Don't just buy into Sandra M's lies. Pharma companies may claim their vaccines are "mercury free" when the mercury is at a certain level. That claim doesn't actually make a vaccines mercury free. Always have to read details of regulation.

Sandra M, in general, does a horrible job proving cause and effect. Just ignore her rubbish and her straw men arguments.

Big Pharma will come up with anything to make you take their drugs. They lie, lie and lie some more. Can't trust their studies. They'll just cherry pick data, manipulate control groups..........etc., etc.,.........they're full of shit.

And then their drug peddlers (pharma sales reps) go from doctor to doctor offering gifts to have the doctors prescribe their legal snake oil.

EDIT: ROTFL! There goes Sandra M making appeals from/to authority, nitpicking over some spelling errors I made (kind of lazy today, just FYI), and then builds herself a straw man:

"There has been an increase on life span due to advances in health care and medicine and that cannot be denied....."

Never claimed the opposite. Sure, advances in emergency medicine, sanitation, general hygiene, antibiotics, which came about through medical research, all help.

What I do claim is that society has become way over drugged and that big pharma companies cannot be trusted with the monopoly over health care.

Merck (Vioxx....) tried to have girls have mandatory vaccinations with Gardasil, for example. How sick is that? It is a vaccine that protects against 4 types of HPV and the chances for young girls to get cancer from these is rather slim. It is very doubtful that the benefits would outweigh the risks on a case by case basis, when you simply mass vaccinate them all. Not to mention how untrusworthy Merck is to begin with.

Big Pharma companies will do anything to make money. And you, Asker, are most certainly correct. If there would be national health insurance in the future, I can almost guarantee that your scenario is what would happen. It is already happening a lot! :)

PS: I'm not completely anti vaccination. I think some of them are useful, but I'm very cautious about the ingredients used in it. For example, I'd consider the tetanus vaccine to be a must for my future children.

Well, they're trying their hardest before Common Sense '10 comes up and the Libs lose the majority. It depends. Certain parts will take different amounts of time. Like how the big O (obama, not obese oprah) said that we have the option of keeping our coverage. what he doesnt say is that it becomes illegal to go back if we lose our policy due to unemployment, missed payments, etc. when government provides "competition" it squashes the private sector in its big, clumsy footsteps.

Answered By: Joey - 7/26/2009
You already have to have some vaccines by law so that people do not get and pass diseases that can kill them. If you think that this is bad do the following:

1. go to your local cemetery.
2. find the oldest part of the cemetery
3. count how many children's graves there are (headstones do not lie)
4. go to the newer section of the cemetery and see how many children's graves are there
5. note the difference. There were far more deaths before the advent of vaccinations and before well child visits
6. if you do not think that this is an accurate study, look up the average life expectancy rates prior to the 1950's (the start of medical insurance) and present. You will find that once people had access to regular health care, a funny thing happened - they lived longer.

No health insurance generally means poor health care and not making vaccines mandatory increases the chances of deadly outbreaks for an entire population. There are still countries that have outbreaks of polio.

EDIT: They are now making mercury free shots. Do you realize that the flu is more deadly than most people think:

"During a typical year in the United States, 30,000 to 50,000 persons die as a result of influenza viral infection. Frequently cited numbers are 20,000 deaths each year, and 37,000 annual deaths. About 5-10?f hospitalizations for influenza lead to fatal outcome in adults."

I had a run in with my child having to be hospitalized because of the flu. I ended up with the same flu and it turned to pneumonia. I and my child get flu shots and we have been fine since. The flu is nothing to play with. By the way, I do think as a society that we over medicate by vaccinations do not fall into this. I believe that there are a lot of happy pills.

EDIT: Yes, ignore Sandra M. She reads and cites sources. Shame on her for making logical arguments. rumpelstilzkin has great answers with a 1?est rating. Now remember that if you give him a thumbs down he will stamp his feet and disappear.

Hey rumpelstilzkin just what are your qualifications and your sources? Your personal attacks are so wonderful and by the way it is a Straw Man (not men) Argument. (A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man . In no way have I done that. Go to school and come back when you graduate.

Ya want cause and effect:

1. disease
2. lack to cure or prevent disease (health insurance provides access to cure, prevention and management)
3. death or long term consequences

I bet r**p can understand this much. There has been an increase on life span due to advances in health care and medicine and that cannot be denied. Yes, pharm companies do sell drugs but the consumer needs to research. I always ask my doc what the 10 year drop dead rate is on a particular drug. If he says that there is no research, I ask for another drug.

EDIT: The lack of science is amazing. There is no vaccination for strep throat as it is bacterial not viral....
Answered By: Sandra M - 7/26/2009
Interesting thought. It's not just conservative media babble.

It would be as simple as refusing to cover a condition if a patient has opted out of recommended "preventative care." Even if it wasn't state mandated, it could easily be enforced. "We have x,y,z vaccinations available - if you refuse those vaccines you waive your right to cover treatment for those diseases should you contract one at a later date." The more common the condition (ie. strep throat, etc.) the easier it would be to impose the vaccination. Pharmaceutical lobbyists will present this as a cost-cutting measure, congress will eat it up, and you're 100?orrect. It would happen.

I am also surprised how eagerly people compare our system to European systems. The British & Swedish systems in particular. People seem to believe that national healthcare systems are proven statistically superior to free market systems as demonstrated by those countries. And that anyone who thinks otherwise is an uneducated republican pawn who stubbornly ignores the facts.

But I believe historically, the argument that national healthcare is superior to a free market system has some merit for a country like theirs. But for a country like ours, historically, national health care is far inferior to free market systems. In fact, when national health care was attempted in country very similar to ours, it not only failed, it became one of the biggest health care disasters to-date. We are not the UK. And we need to be careful to make those distinctions.

The UK & Sweden are relatively small areas of coverage compared to the US. When talking health care the "area of coverage" is significant, and can determine quality & success of health care.

Coverage-wise (pop & land) we have more in common with Russia than we do the UK. Moscow and DC are not centrally located. We're both over 37 times larger than Sweden and the UK. We also have large (poorer) rural areas of coverage and smaller (wealthier) concentrated urban areas of coverage. The gap between the rich and the poor is greater in Russia & the US than it is in the UK & Sweden. And we both came out of purely free market systems.

Pre-USSR we both had the same form of health care (consumer-oriented business, Hippocratic Oath, charity hospitals for the poor, strong competition for medical school positions, etc.) - These similarities are VERY IMPORTANT to note. You are probably very familiar with the results of Russia's socialized health care system. If that happened to the US the entire system would buckle. We'd be taking one step forward, 3 steps back.

The biggest problem with the UK's NHS (and most national health care systems) is that there is not enough to go around. If that is also the problem in the US we will feel it on a grander scale. And our NH will be an even greater failure - with an even larger price tag.

So tread carefully people. We need to make sure we're considering ALL the facts.
Source(s):
*edit* I was using "strep" to convey how common conditions (in addition to the flu) can be. The issue isn't wether or not you should take a vaccine, it's wether or not you will still have a choice. Obviously vaccines have a legitimate place in health care. I am sorry about what happened to your child.

Do you think business is going to prime the pump by paying for
health care for services people who have medical services now
they will drop all the costs and services they provide leaving the burden to fall on the government health care thus if your current jobs health care is dropped because everyone has governement medicare health care like in Canada or the UK all business and insurance stopped right out paying for medical care business stopped those payements thus government then struck with providing all health care
they said it was going to be all the same medical services available as was before government health care was installed all other health care became out of the reach of most people unless they came up the costs of what the government decided which costs where and werenot
going to be paid for like cancer patients who cant wait for health care to be paid for or okayed time means you die in cancer or some health care like a faiing kidney for a 60 year old versus a 16 year old when you delay medical replacement or care due to approvals the time they waste in approvals to give you care means you ight die waiting
for a kidney while some government paperwork has to be approved so you get the kidney or the heart operation or the problem of say you have pimples on your head and they have not tested enough to find your pimples are underlying a infection or a tumor inside your head which with time will turn to cancer thus killing you but its manifestation is pimples the root problem the cause of the infection on the surface seems benign but you true health issue is deadly wait means death
from the tumor growth into the entire brain plus ulcerations from the unhealing pimples which cause infection to make the tiumor grow
faster. So business rids your other sources of health care dropping health care off its payroll as the governments job so the xtras or the good health care you either pay out your pocket or you go without for no one will insure you nor cant you get support for in time under government time tables if they even approve your health issue care
due to your age they might turn you out denied. This is why cancer patients and heart patients in canada and UK come here and pay
for health care here for proceedures their health care wont do for them in their country they can mortgage their houses for the money to pay for the proceedures here get the lives saved where if they just stayed in their own country they would die. Waiting. Do you think insurance big companies and insurance companies in the medical business of insurance is going to pay for any health care they dont have to once the government gets hold of medicine there is no incentive for profit
to do anything they do now and they have to pay set costs set by
modern oversight commitees thus if they have a new proceedure that will save your life and its not ever been used or okayed yoou would wait until that legislative body of our government has made it a payable
covered illness or fix for health care thus you suffer until some medical legislative body decides on the new pills or proceduers or the doctors
are free to use this now over used health care to help you for you no longer are at the moment health care your fall into the system awaiting
on a list of people waiting your turn to come up thus you loose time waiting in a hospital for youor operation and either you pay out your pocket for speeding up the process or you wait and hope you dont expire of a heart attack before they perform the procedure you need to fix your health. I know insurance companies will love this legilation for \
their insurance will no longer be controlled by costs and to get it youd have to spend allot more out your pocket to receive what you get from your job now and just so those illegal aliens that dont have or pay for their medical which was the cause that our medical systems failed in the first place just the cost of the birthing illegal aliens and medical costs of all the medical services given away to those mothers birthing
in the state of california just last year spent 6.4 billions just to birth illegal aliens in this state in 2008 which meant 6.4 billion in medcial
services went paid for by the general fund our taxes moneys to the tune for california 6.5 billion and than one year for just births of people that are not even americans but those birthed become automatic americans cause they are born here thus as they are born the become americans although their parents are illegal aliens and the babies if they have health issues the mothers and babies stay on our public dole
until they leave healthy from the free hospital stay we pay for from our taxes then when those babies grow up working here in the "USA for ten ears they receive social security come time they retire and their families get those social security payments even if that family lives in mexico so they take billions more out of country and they caused our medical system whi

ope n your eyes and realize the reason health care has closed four hospitals in san jose california in the last five years alone san jose closed four large hospitals which provided health care and emergency rooms for the service of the three millions citizens with a overwhelmingly hispanic population where they increased the population to the tune of two millions but those three million people income taxes cant support the cost of these four emergnecy hospitals to stay in business sound crazy yes thats the proof if you have a normal city like San francisco its able to support its hospitals in tact with only a few local area clinics going out of services due to its population influx of illegals thus they even wen t to the public calling itself a city of sanctuary for iilegals but had to recend that promotion due to the overrun locally on the public services this city has SF the largest public homeless population and the population of illegals rose by three fold when the promotion ran that Sf was a sanctuary city which was providing 245 dollars per homeless person there were then thousands of illegals flocking here applying for city homeless money they would live on the streets send the money they got to the south of the border and livve day to day day working on the streets of san francisco feeding out the food pantries and free charity groups the already burdened homeless facilities got burdened eeven further forcing a migration of illegals to the usa. enough saidd.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!
