Socialized healthcare in America?

Why does America not have socialized healthcare? I've thought about it, and I can't figure out why we don't have it. What are the consequences from it that are preventing America from using it?

There really are not any good working socialized health care systems. What ultimately suffers is the quality of health care and health care innovation. it goes to the most basic root of economics and that is profit drives efficiencies and innovation... More

Approximately 1/6 of the US economy is health care. That's a lot of money. Some of which goes to pay for political donations.
