Is it okay to ask a hiring manager why they didn't offer an interview?

I've been applying for Java Developer jobs but haven't been getting the response I was hoping for. Most recently I didn't even get offered an interview for a position I was well suited for. My skills and experience fit in very well for the position and organization. I submitted a resume and cover letter and didn't get offered an interview. I guess what I want to know is, is it okay to reply to the e-mail I got from their hiring manager and ask why they passed on me?

It could be that they had an internal candidate already picked and just posted the job for form. It could also be the fact that they received 150+ resumes within a day or two, and just took the first 50 to look over. Yes Please ask. Something is wrong with your resume and needs a pro to look at it. Otherwise your background check is turning something up. A poor credit history hurts.

It is OK to ask, but they probably won't tell you. Everyone is terrified of a lawsuit these days.
