I'm an IT recruiter in Miami and I feel that this is a job and not a career what can I do with my skills?

I work in the IT staffing world, I've been recruiting for a staffing company for the past 5 years, this is job and I want a career where I can grow and see my salary grow, I am looking to move from Miami to California, any ideas on where to focus my career, or where to go from here?
