What exactly do you have to do to get promoted to the next position?

What branch? which field? In the Army E1-E3 are automatic. for E4 you can wait and get it automaticaly or maybe get a waiver. If you meet the time in grade and time in service, then you can show that you are different by being different. Do what needs to be done, take the initiative. Ask for more responsibility. know... Rank and Position are two separate things. If you do your job well, and your boss does the proper counselings, you should get a good NCOER. Pursue additional education to get your Associates Degree and then Bachelors degree. Once you've completed your position well for a while, if they need people in a similar but... More

This is true for the army I don't know about all others: show you can handle more on your plate by volunteering your time and trying to get others involved. Such as helping at parades in your own time working volunteer recruiting efforts. Go to any and all soldier boards you can and of course do extremely well. Being a... More
