Requirements for USCG 6-pack Captains License.?

When they say you need 360 days of on the water experience, what does than mean. I sail 4-5 hours at a time and keep a log on a spreadsheet. Are each of these outings counted as a day and is this good enough record keeping?

You need 360 days on the water since your 16th birthday. A "day" means at least 4 hours underway. If you are underway more that 12 hours you can claim 1.5 days for that outing. If you own your boat this is OK, If not you must have the owner of the vessel right you the seatime. If you go to the Coastguard website you can download the forms for your seatime entries, just transfer your info on them. P.S. If you are taking the test, STUDY, STUDY STUDY.

If you are the boat's owner, you may document your sea time as you've done. Otherwise you need a letter from the boat's owner stating your sea time. Go to and check out the links to licensing.

If I remember correctly then the hours logged must be 3hrs or more and specifically the distance sailed, type of vessel and position on the vessel ie 7/21/09 6hrs 79nm here to there andrews 70' watch captain and have the capt/skip sign your log...
