How much should I pay for carpet and install?
I'm trying to hire someone to install carpeting in my basement (about 1100 sq. feet). The job would include removal of existing carpet. I was quoted for a supposed midrange carpet (polyester type with 32 oz weight per sq foot - whatever that means) $3100 for the whole thing - is that a good quote? If not, how much can I expect to pay by breakdown (carpet, install, padding, removal) Thanks greatly appreciated! I will leave a best answer for your effort!

That sounds like a fair price for the material you describe. Most flooring companies prefer to work from a fixed price for material and installation. There are many reasons for that, and as long as the price seems fair, and the installer has a good reputation, your best bet is probably to accept the proposal... More
