How to become a truck driver?

I'm currently working as a cashier, but I've always wanted to become a truck driver, i.e. tractor trailers. I'm wondering how I would best go about looking and applying for trucking jobs. I know there is experience needed, so how can I get that if they only hire experienced people? Btw, I do not have a CDL yet. How can I get one and how much does it cost? Thanks in advance!
